Wexford town ‘like war zone’

| January 5, 2018

Councillors in Wexford are furious over the state of the town as a result of work by various utility providers including Virgin Media, SIRO, Irish Water and Board Gas.

Cllr. Anthony Kelly said the town was ‘like a war zone’ and Cllr, Ger Carthy raised concerns about the quality of reinstatement works and said he feared the Council would be left to carry the cost of proper repairs in the long run.

Mayor Jim Moore said that while everyone accepted the importance of improving the infrastructure there needed to be an update on progress and future plans.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Virgin Media has abandoned plans to bring its high speed broadband to the Bishopswater area of the town. They dropped the plans citing the high charges being imposed by the local authority to dig up a road that had only recently been completed.
