Neville is guest of honour at 100th birthday party

| January 5, 2018

There was a carnival atmosphere in in the main store of Colman Doyle Homestores last Friday night as a big crowd turned up to enjoy the party to mark the 100th anniversary of the business starting to trade. Colman Doyle Homestores is noted for the huge range it stocks but they went a bit further last weekend when they brought in the sandwiches, cakes and wine to celebrate the big occasion.

Collette Doyle, who is now at the head of the business, was as proud as punch to host the event and delighted that so many people turned up to make it an occasion to remember.

Colman Doyles began one hundred years ago with a single shop on Wexford’s South Main Street but under the guidance of Collette’s brother, Colman, expanded to many locations along that part of Wexford Main Street.

The main store where last week’s function was held was once Wexford’s Capital Cinema but is now a most impressive furniture and interiors store.

Given the range of interiors stocked it was really appropriate that the well known television interior designer, Neville Knott, would be guest of honour for the event.

He proved to be a smash hit with the crowd which he entertained and guided in equal measure.  Neville is famous for his TV3 television show Neville’s Doorstep Challenge.

Joining Collette on the night to make sure everyone was well looked after were  her loyal staff, many of whom have been with Colman Doyle Homestores for many years.

Overall it was a fitting and entertaining celebration of one hundred years trading as a family business in Wexford town and at a time when multi-nationals appear to be dominating the world and even local economies it was even more special that a home-grown success story should reach this milestone.
