| January 5, 2018

A major upgrade of the playground facilities at Redmond Park in Wexford town and New Ross Town Park is to be undertaken next year at a cost of €500,000.

The upgrade of the Redmond Park, a very popular location for families in Wexford, will be undertaken at the same time as the development of a major new Town Park, at Killeens on the outskirts of the town.

It is proposed that the play area in Redmond Park be extended

While most of the work will focus on the actual playground area there will also be upgrades to the general park with improved path surfacing and an improvement in park furniture.

Details of the work were revealed at a meeting of the Wexford Borough District Council this week.

Work is expected to begin in September 2018.

Councillors in Wexford have warmly welcomed the plans for Redmond Park. Cllr. Anthony Kelly said it was a tremendous asset to the town.

Meanwhile, a twenty year campaign by Cllr. Davy Hynes may be about to end in success. He first sought to have a Skate Park developed in the town when his own son would have availed of it. Now it will be his grandchildren who are likely to use it.

Following a motion at the Wexford Borough District Council meeting this week Cllr, Hynes was told that the Skate facility would be included in phase 2 of the new Town Park in Killeens.
