Reading Together is special. It is a time when you as a parent, grandparent , carer, brother, sister or friend, sit down with your small child, and equipped with a book  travel to places unknown.

During the month of February in County Wexford libraries  invite you to join  special events for pre-school children and their families. There will be workshops, puppet shows, visits from children’s authors and illustrators.  The festival opens on Saturday 4th February in Bunclody Library, when Shine Bright Theatre will introduce you to Princess Chatterbox and her puppet friends.

On Saturday 11th February in New Ross library Shone Shirley Mac Donald, author, will work with children to design characters and create a giant book cover. And on the following Tuesday  morning, the 14th February you are invited to bring your pre-school child, aged 3 and over, to Enniscorthy Library to make some nature themed cards.

In Wexford Library on Saturday 18th join in the fun at the family day and create a giant doodle, make a floor illustration and test your vocal skills against those of puppeteer Julie Rose McCormick. Enniscorthy Library that day promises a Gymboree. The gymboree team also visit Gorey Library on Saturday 25th February. Margaret Anne Suggs, the illustrator from the award winning book, The Pigín of Howth, will talk and draw with children later that day.

The Reading Together Festival is curated by author Caroline Busher. Caroline is the Reader in Residence with the Wexford County Council Public Library Service. In this role she works with children, young people, parents and teachers. She is passionate about reading and how we read with children both for fun and to improve literacy. You can follow what Caroline is doing and talk with her at https://www.facebook.com/wexfordreader/ or https://wexfordreader.wordpress.com/

Caroline promises reading events for all. To complement her work with children, she is also organising a series of free parent information sessions. These will be held in all County Wexford public libraries. In these events Caroline will talk about reading and literacy, she will recommend books and answer any questions you have on encouraging children to read. The next Get Up and Read session takes place in Wexford Library on Thursday 23rd February at 7pm. Contact Wexford Library at telephone number 053 9196759 to book a place. To book your place at any of the events above or to get more information, please contact your local library.

Do take this opportunity, bring your family to the library and enjoy the Reading Together Festival this February. We look forward to meeting and talking to you.
