High speed broadband coming……..for some 21/05/16

| May 21, 2016

Super High Speed Broadband is on its way to Wexford, at least to parts of the county and SIRO the company which is using the ESB cable network to bring the service to homes in the county presented their plans to members of the Wexford Municipal District Council this week.

Sean Atkinson the boss of SIRO told councillors that his service could deliver broadband several times faster than anything currently available in the country.

Members of the Council welcomed the initiative but were cautious given the many false starts which there have been with broadband in Wexford in recent years.

Cllr George Lawlor said the service should be started in areas which were not currently served. Cllr Davy Hynes said many parts of the town, even close to the centre still could not get high speed broadband.

However, if there is some hope for the town the situation in rural areas is not so bright. It will be 2022 before any high speed service will be delivered to more rural parts of the county, the SIRO boss informed Cllr Frank Staples

Because the new service will run along the current ESB network there will be widespread power cuts in Wexford town when the work of installing the new cables is being carried out
