Top class racing at Wexford over holiday weekend 23/10/15

It’s a big weekend for racing fans in Co. Wexford and the South East with Wexford Racecourse staging its most important national hunt fixtures of the year over the Bank Holiday weekend.

They race at Bettyville Park on Saturday afternoon and again on Bank Holiday Monday. Racegoers can take a breather on Sunday and enjoy some of the other delights of the Wexford Festival Opera.

But on the racecourse it promises to be a very exciting and entertaining weekend with top quality cards on both days.

The most valuable race of the weekend and the feature of the two days is the Listed M W Hickey Memorial Steeplechase which is worth €26,000 and is due off at 3.15pm.

With the clocks going forward over the weekend there is an early start to proceedings on Monday with the first race timed for 1.05pm. Racing starts with the Peter Nolan Bloodstock Maiden Hurdle and the card includes four hurdles in total, a Beginners Chase and a Bumper to support the feature race.

Saturday’s card gets underway with the Casey Concrete Blocks Maiden Hurdle at 2.05pm. The six race card features four hurdle races, a Chase and a bumper.

There is a total of €165,000 in prize money on offer for the thirteen races to be run over the weekend.

With good quality national hunt racing on offer a big crowd is expected and tables for dining can be booked in advance.
